USS Pampanito (SS 383)
WW2 Fleet Submarine
Although it might seem trivial after everything else on the trip, this ship is anything but trivial for those who served on her during World War 2. Between her six patrols from 1944-1945, this submarine sank six Japanese ships, damaged four other Japanese ships, and rescued seventy-three Australian and British POWs. Those who served on this ship, and others like it, are the reason the Axis powers lost and we enjoy the freedoms we have today.
I intentionally posted a lot of pictures because I wanted to emphasize that this was not an easy task. There were a lot of people in tight spaces for up to eight weeks at a time. This album is a tribute to them.
(the tour works its way from aft to forward, so the pictures are in that order)
